Research tells us that tamariki who attend high quality early childhood programs demonstrate better maths and language skills, better cognition and social skills, better interpersonal relationships and better behaviour regulation than tamariki in lower quality care. Julie, Trudy, Chris and Bella are the primary caregivers in the under two area and they are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and uniquely enriching environment in which they foster tamariki health, physical, social, intellectual and emotional development.
They consider themselves a part of your family and community striving to care for tamariki as well as you do.
Indeed, these teachers are passionate for providing quality care and education in a professional, warm and friendly environment – a home away from home! Tamariki are free to choose activities, both planned and spontaneous and they are encouraged to try as many activities as possible in a consistent and emotionally supportive way to explore at their own pace.
“We treat tamariki as capable and confident explorers, offering unlimited learning experiences within our peaceful indoor and outdoor environment,”
says ‘under two’ team leader Julie Cuneen.
At this early stage tamariki need an established relationship with a “key teacher” who knows routines, likes, dislikes and strengths and who encourages emotional, physical and cognitive development making the transition into the early childhood environment a smooth and emotionally pleasurable process.
Our teachers are extremely passionate about the care, love and education they give your infants/toddlers.

  • Our daughter Lucy started at pre school in April 2016, she was 11 months old. Lucy was made to feel comfortable and at ease as soon as she walked in the door, despite it being an intimidating time for a toddler.
This was very reassuring for us as parents and made us happy that we had made the right decision to put her into pre school.
The Storypark app which Pre School uses is great. It keeps us and Lucy’s grandparents up to date with what she’s being doing at school.
They are always busy with something, whether it be painting or building something. They have a great range of activities available for the children to develop their motor skills and character.
Currently Lucy is transitioning to the over 2’s. The communication with everyone has been great throughout this process.

  • The standard of care in the under 2 area is exceptional, I feel confident leaving my child knowing he will be well cared for and kept safe. I highly recommend it.

  • With the birth of our son and both of us working, there was a need to place our child in a Preschool, the choice of which was an easy one.
Methven Preschool came highly recommended from our friends and former employees, as a great place for our child to learn, develop and grow.
We have found the staff to be exceptional when dealing with our son.
The daily feedback is very insightful and shows they are attentive towards our son.
Regular reporting through the ‘Story Book’ page via email, provides a great photo album history of our sons progress in both learning and play, providing very accurate observational remarks, that reflects what he is really up to.
Luke greatly enjoys his time there and it has been thoroughly beneficial for his social skills and motor development, being around children of his own age.
Methven Preschool has our trust and admiration. We have found the staff to be very confident, diligent and very professional towards our sons development.
If you are thinking about a preschool placement for your child, we cannot recommend MPS enough.

  • The staff are friendly, dedicated and patient and always hands-on to make learning experiences valuable and fun.We are very thankful to have such a great Pre School in our town – Thank you for all that you do!

  • “Being busy working parents, we have had both our wee girls in the baby’s room, one of which is a current attendee. Our girls absolutely love the environment. They feel safe and are away from the hustle and bustle of the older kids. They get fabulous care and attention with people we know well. It amazes us what the girls have learnt at such a young age due to the full attention they get. We couldn’t recommend Methven Pre School highly enough!”

  • “What makes Methven Pre School really special to us is that most of the teachers are the very same ones who took such great care of our first child 8 years ago. The overall service is outstanding and we are sure that there are hundreds of other parents in the community who feel the same way as us.”
