• 7:30 – 8.00 Teachers set up basic activities which are relevant to children’s needs and interests.

  • 8:00 Teachers welcome children and support them into activities.
    Some of these activities may include helping to set up the environment, for example choosing equipment, making play dough or setting up outdoor environment (arranging equipment).

  • 8:30 – 9:45 Free play choice of activities are encouraged both inside and outside. Children choose activities they wish to participate in.

  • 9:45 – 10:00 Children are called to help clean up, followed by mat time, karakia, and hand washing. Children are separated into two groups in order to meet the needs of shorter attention spans.

  • 10:00 MORNING TEA

  • 10:15 Children tidy their drink bottles and morning tea packs away if they have finished. Self help skills are encouraged, for example face washing, toileting, ensuring they are properly attired for outdoor play. Free play/free choice activity is encouraged both inside and outside.

  • 11:45 – 12:00 Children are called to help tidy up, to recite a karakia and to wash hands before lunch.

  • 12:00 – 12:20 LUNCH – 4 year olds sit separately, often outside during warmer weather or on a picnic blanket inside when wet or on the veranda. Self help skills are encouraged.

  • 12:20 Activities are changed around according to children’s interest.

  • 14:50 Tidy up time before short mat time and hand washing.


  • 15.00 Free Play – small group activities/board games etc
