“Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ai te iwi.”
“With your basket and my basket, the people will live.”
At Methven Pre School we believe that tamariki learn and grow best through play, creativity, and an engaging environment, which is guided by the principles and strands of the Aotearoa early childhood curriculum Te whᾱriki.Through providing tamariki with rich opportunities reflective of their culture, language, identity, skills and current interests, provides us with a strong basis to treasure each tamariki’s sense of hauora and whakapapa.
We nurture tamariki and whᾱnau to feel a strong sense of mana whenua/belonging in the environment, placing value on celebrating our ever-growing diversity, beliefs and uniqueness of our centre. Ngᾱhononga/relationships are at the heart of our learning environment, providing opportunities to share interests, skills and values collaboratively between tamariki, whᾱnau, and kaiako and installing a strong sense of whanaungatanga in tamariki by involving them in wider community activities and events.
Being active members of the ‘Opuke Kahui Ako’Community of Learning provides us with positive pathways to support our tamariki and whᾱnau, so transitions to school are smooth and enjoyable experience.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi is integral to curriculum, visible through our daily te reo Mᾱori interactions with tamariki. As well as tikanga practices being implemented throughout our environment, respectful of local iwi and hapu. We are a reflective, proactive team of kaiako, striving high to meet the changing needs and aspirations of our whᾱnau, tamariki and ever-evolving society.
